It's free and all are welcome. Our guest demonstrator will be Vincent Crotty, a terrific Irish American oil painter who spends time between Boston and Ireland. He is known for his city scenes -- some at night. Attached is a photo of one of his wintry paintings. But you might want to come just to hear his brogue, or for our free refreshments.
Among the issues discussed were the need for a new treasurer; the Small Works Show for 3 weekends in April at Patriot Place; other exhibiting venues for members; and Holiday gift ideas from Frank Quinn, to wit, the book "Master Thieves" (about the art heist at the Gardner Museum) available on Dec. 15 at the Walpole Library, and the making of T-shirts from your painting at Ink'd in Mansfield -- both items priced at $25.
Then our demonstrator, Jim Wolford, held court and demonstrated how he worked on a landscape in oils from a photo. Jim is a Copley artist (which means he was judged to be terrific by the Copley Society in Boston). His web page is: jameswolford.com. Here is a photo of Jim painting at our meeting.
Note the photograph he used as a reference at the top of his easel. He emphasized painting loosely using a one-inch brush, taking advantage of the looseness of watercolor. His web page is panthonyvisco.com. (The "p" in his e-mail stands for "Peter", which he never uses.)
We are also grateful to Robert Stepansky for donating 2 boxes of painting books and supplies which the members feasted on -- all for free.
This presentation is free and open to all and is being sponsored by the Friends of the Walpole Library. So if you are interested in the work of Vermeer or Rembrandt you owe it to yourself to see and hear about these two great artists. Beth Knaus of ArtMatters will show us their work and discuss the challenges they both faced.FrancisXhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13124448778015024448noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-991515637870675774.post-38764130943451305182015-10-15T08:03:00.001-04:002015-10-15T08:23:22.568-04:00Oct. 14 MeetingBefore our demonstrator performed, we discussed a variety of events including a planned "Small Works Show" for members in April at the Gallery at Patriot Place and the last "paint out" of the year, planned for this Saturday, Oct. 17, at Patriot Place. Also, since our Treasurer, Paula DePierro has relocated to Middleboro, after more than 10 years, we need a new treasurer, along with a new Secretary to compile our minutes. Our next meeting is pushed back one week because of Veterans Day with the library being closed. Therefore, we will meet the 3rd Wednesday next month, Nov. 18.

Our meeting demonstrator was Kelley MacDonald, who painted a small acrylic of jelly doughnuts while the audience salivated. She claimed these small paintings, along with those of drinks, were popular among the buying public. She talked while she painted and was a big hit.
