Art of the Americas
I was recently in Boston with some time to kill and found myself in the Museum of Fine Arts. I hadn't been there in a while and noticed some pieces were missing. I also noticed a curtain not successfully hiding a huge modern airy space. Now I know where the missing art is or will be, in the new wing "Art of the Americas". There will be a lot to see this November in the new large space, designed by architects Foster + Partners, with four floors showcasing 5,000 works of art. The MFA is always a great resource on many levels. Here's the link.
The Sketchbook Project deadline approaching
The deadline to order your sketchbook and be part of this exciting Art House Coop project is coming soon, October 31.
Here are some quick facts:
•You order a sketchbook, like the one above for $25
•You select a theme (or they can randomly pick a theme for you)
•You sketch, color, collage, or whatever you want inside from now until the deadline to mail in which is January 15, 2011
•All the sketchbooks go "on tour" at several cities across the country. Closest to us is Portland Maine but they keep adding cities to the tour
•All the sketchbooks end up catalogued and ultimately will live in the Brooklyn Art Library where anyone can view them
•You can pay an extra $20 to receive a digitized version of your sketchbook.
Sounds like fun, doesn't it? You can sign up on their website by clicking this link.

A great resource for artists
I wanted to share a wonderful online resource for artists. Every Thursday, artists Leslie Saeta and Dreama Tolle Perry host an hour long blog talk radio show. You can call in to be part of the live discussion or it's also recorded so that you can listen to it whenever you have the time. In the past, they have interviewed Carol Marine, as well as gallery owners, and picture framers.
This week, their guest is Kevin Macpherson, an accomplished plein air painter. Should be interesting. Click here for the link for the information for this week's show and all of the archived shows they have recorded to date.

Classes offered at Gallery9, Norwood, MA
Kim Morin Weineck has added to her teaching schedule!
Where? Gallery9 at Custom Art Framing
When? Tuesday evenings, 7-9pm. Arrive anytime after 6:30pm to get ready.
You can sign up for one class, a 'onesie' for $30
or sign up for a series of four classes, a 'foursie' for $100.
With a 'foursie' you must take the four classes over five consecutive weeks. This way you get one free absence during your paid four-class session.
All supplies are provided by the student.
The format is 'open studio' with all students working on their own projects within a group setting.
Be as structured or as loose as you'd like. I'd be more than happy to develop a curriculum with you for your sessions in class.
Open Enrollment: Start any time you are ready! How much fun is that?
Class is always running. Check the gallery blog for cancellations.
If you're still on the fence, stop in during a class. Check out what's going on. I want you to be comfortable about taking a class with me.
Any questions? Email me at kimweineck@gmail.com
Thanks!

Unique Mixed Media Show - Quilts & Art
During November a unique display of 21 quilts paired with the works of art that inspired them will be shown at the Norfolk Libray. These quilts were started last year, when fiber artists selected a work of art (painting or photo) submitted by local artists which they thought would inspire them to create a corresponding quilt. The quilts are (almost) finished and will be on display, along with the corresponding work of art. Meet the artists at their reception on Nov, 16, 6-8 pm.

Hurray!
You never know where your sales can come from. Happy to know that this blog has helped a local artist and collector make a connection---even before the show opening reception!!
